Mechanics
The inner workings of the campaign. OB is loosely based on the dice-rolling & stats seen in D&D. The stats in OB have been re-envisioned to better fit the fluidity of this campaign. Combat is kept to a minimum, but situations will arise where it is an option.

We are a high literacy group based on growing skills. (Expect to roleplay in full sentences/paragraphs with correct grammar and punctuation. A typical post should at least be 1 paragraph.)

The activity & workload is low-medium and should not be prioritized over real-life responsibilities. You should expect monthly prompts & group-wide story beat events. You will have an entire month to participate. The following 2-5 weeks (based on members' feedback & schedules) after a story event will be used for rest and recuperation. Private and public roleplay is encouraged during this time.
Group-wide events will be conducted primarily on google docs. Discord will be used for communication, announcements, and less strenuous roleplay. Deviantart will be used as a hub for art and literature pertaining to the group.

In character, the characters have 365 days. Out of character, the group is expected to run for at least a year and no longer than two years.
Character stats
Characters will start with 17 stat points that they can assign freely to the four stats (fortitude, focus, comprehension, & charisma). Each stat has a maximum of 15 stat points. The characters start without any stat modifiers. They will start with 40 HP & 40 UB.
Ubiety
The state of being. Ubiety is tied to the tangentially of your character's physical form. If they have low ubiety, they cannot interact with physical items or locations. The colors drain out of them, the light leaves their eyes (if they have them), and they become ghost-like and unassociated with the physical plane. Losing all ubiety will result in a "reset" of the physical form, and the character will be sent back to the absence. If you remain at 0 UB for too long, the soul will cease to exist.
Health
The health of the body. The physical form is a fickle thing and can easily fall under the influences of illness, injury, or others. Maintaining a high HP is crucial for the safety of your physical form, and reaching 0 HP means the complete obliteration of the current form. Depending on how strong the character's humor is, they may lose their physical form for an extended period of time. The longer without a physical form, the more likely the soul will "die" completely.
Fortitude
Focus
Comprehension
Charisma
(Str&COn alt)
(dex alt)
(int&wis alt)
In OB, physical strength is tied closely with mental strength. Due to the fluidity of the physical form here, a character may not always have classical strength to rely on. To account for this, we have fortitude. This is resilence and strength of the mind and core. Those with high fortitude are the typical "tanks" or those with stronger mental thresholds. The stronger the mind, the stronger the body.
Once again addressing the physical form (or lack there of), dexterity has been altered. It accounts for reaction time but not physical resilence. Those with high focus react faster and are more attentive to their surroundings. They are very perceptive and are more aware of danger than most.
Intelligence and wisdom have been combined into a single stat- comprehension. Those with high comprehension have more wordly intelligence (booksmarts) or common knowledge (streetsmarts). Either way, they are often the interpretors of the group and can understand more depth than most. When things need clarification, others will turn to those with high comprehension.
This is the one stat that does not differ from the typical D&D system. Charisma is used in social situations and determines how well a character interacts with others. It also impacts how they are percieved by others. Those with high charisma are usually flirts, manipulators, or leaders. They can often convince others or utilize other's talents for their own gain.
prompts
Every month, a prompt will be released. These prompts are optional but will be rewarded greatly upon completion. Characters can earn titles, memories, and mementos outside of game time through these prompts. Typically, a prompt will have a literature option and an art option, depending on which area you wish to explore more (or, if you wish, both). They are released on the first day of the month and close for submissions on the last.
Non-player characters (NPCs)
NPCs will be an active part of OB. You can build relationships with NPCs just like PCs. There will be some that will stick around for the entirety of the campaign. They are typically just as alive and fragile as PC characters. NPCs may offer exclusive items or "pop-up shops" depending on relationships built between NPCs and PCs. Gifts in the form of art & writing will also aid in building a substantial relationship with these NPCs. You may unlock some secrets! :-]
